Wood Information
Collecting and drying the
wood is the beginning of the
process. It is heavy noisey
work. A chain saw, hand
truck, and hard work are the
norm.

Welcome, please enjoy your visit!

If you do not want to become that involved, you can buy all
of your wood blanks,

If not truck it home,
unload, cut it smaller with
the chainsaw, wax the
ends to prevent rapid
moisture loss.

Pick out a few pieces for the bandsaw, cut blanks
appropriate to the grain structure in the log, you decide
small bowl, large bowl, candle stick, or pen; it depends on
your imagination and your reading of the wood. Now choose
to set it aside to dry, or turn it green to a rough size and
then dry. Patience is now your friend, typically you will wait
a minimum of 6 months before touching it again with the
lathe and tools.
